Women, Gadgets and 1% Approval Rating

Happened upon a great article in fast company, a review about women and gadgets from the CES 2009 conference: Sex and Electronics Part 1: Women and Smart Design

It gives some startling statistics surrounding women and the consumption of gadgets. 80% of women are actually becoming critical to the buying decisions of consumer electronics in American households. But in contrast - the percentage of woman who think gadgets are designed to suit their needs...1%!!!! A huge opportunity for both business ...... and artistic critique to say the least.

Other facts interesting in the article :

Men, literally, have more gray matter in their brains. That makes them better at specialized
and focused tasks. Women, on the other hand, have more white matter. That’s the tissue that
wires processing centers together. That means we rock at multitasking, and integrating
functions, but figuring out the glitch with the WiFi can be a hurdle.

The agency, femmeden, has been working to change things with products like the Flip Mino
It claims to be successful to some extent, but huh.

Still no word on innovations in the materiality of these products...but working on finding it.
